How to calculate the processing capacity of filter press
November.18,2024
The sludge processing capacity of plate and frame filter press is calculated by wet sludge volume method. The detailed formula is as follows:
Wet sludge volume method:
1. Filter area standard: The filter area of the filter press manufactured according to the national standard is equivalent to 15L of solid volume per square meter.
2. Before filtration: volume V1 (m³), water content of sewage before filtration a = 97.5% ~ 99.2% (general experience value).
3. After filtration: volume V2 (m³), water content of sludge after filtration b = 75%.
4. Filter cycle: number of filtration times per day t.
5. Solid content balance method: V1*(1-a)=V2*(1-b), V2=V1*(1-a)/(1-b).
6. Filtration area: =1000*V2/15/t=1000*V1*(1-a)/(1-b)/15/t.
Plate and frame filter press sludge treatment
7. Example: The amount of wet sludge produced every day is V1=6.0m³, and the moisture content is a=98.0%. It is planned to treat the concentrated sludge once a day. The filtration area of the filter press required is =1000*6.0*(1-98%)/(1-75%)/15/1=32. According to the calculation, it is recommended to use a filter press with a filtration area of 35㎡ (larger than 32㎡).
Suggestion: For companies with a daily sludge volume of only 6m³, it is more cost-effective to use general chamber filtration equipment. The chamber has a small processing capacity, but a low moisture content. Once a day or once every two days (a chamber cycle is about one and a half hours plus unloading is also within 2 hours), the mud cake can be taken away for treatment in time.
