Requirements of sandblasting process for quartz sand

date icon

Sandblasting is a process of cleaning and roughening the surface of the substrate by the impact of high-speed sand flow. Compressed air is used as the power to form a high-speed jet beam to spray the material (copper ore sand, quartz sand, corundum, iron sand, Hainan sand) at high speed to the surface of the workpiece to be processed, so that the appearance or shape of the outer surface of the workpiece surface changes. Due to the impact and cutting action of the abrasive on the workpiece surface, the surface of the workpiece obtains a certain degree of cleanliness and different roughness, so that the mechanical properties of the workpiece surface are improved, thereby improving the fatigue resistance of the workpiece, increasing the adhesion between it and the coating, and extending the durability of the coating.

Sandblasting raw materials

quartz sand

The common sandblasting raw materials are quartz sand, which is divided into ordinary quartz sand and refined quartz sand. The main parameters are hardness, sio2 content, refractoriness, particle size, etc. The common particle size is 1-3mm, the particle size is 5-200 mesh, and the coarseness of the sand is divided into 4 levels according to the fineness modulus.
Coarse sand: fineness modulus is 3.7-3.1, average particle size is above 0.5mm.
Medium sand: fineness modulus is 3.0-2.3, average particle size is 0.5-0.35mm.
Fine sand: fineness modulus is 2.2-1.6, average particle size is 0.35-0.25mm.
Extra fine sand: fineness modulus is 1.5-0.7, average particle size is below 0.25mm.
The fineness modulus of sand for ordinary concrete is in the range of 3.7-1.6, medium sand is suitable, or coarse sand is added with a small amount of fine sand, coarse sand and fine sand are used together, which can achieve the dual effect of cleaning and roughening the metal surface. ZS series high temperature anti-corrosion coatings generally require the metal substrate to be sandblasted and derusted first, with a surface roughness of 40μm and a derusting grade of Sa2.5. Effects before and after sandblasting: It is recommended to use corundum and iron ore sand for good spraying materials. Welds need to be assisted by manual grinding.
